Comaco Toys: The Movie

We originally made a You Tube video almost 5 years ago when our own website was launched. Having noticed that this was still showing up on Google we decided it was time for an upgrade. So here it is!

The new vid definitely shows the range of products we currently have in 2014. Give it a watch and let us know what you think!

The video was created using Windows Movie Maker and it is basically made up of product images from our website plus captions and a few extra graphics. It was interesting to compare the content between the old and new videos. Although some generic categories had not changed – Toy Guns, Knights, Cowboys, Army etc – almost all the individual products had. Perhaps not surprising after 5 years! Completely new however were most of the branded products so far discussed in this blog – Nerf, Megabloks, Hello Kitty, Monster High and Papo Figures.

We are quite pleased with the background music was downloaded from a royalty free site. There are also a few bonus sound effects for those who watch it through right to the end!

Papo Dinosaur Figures at Comaco Toys Direct

I’ve recently been rewatching “Planet Dinosaur”, the TV series from a few years back narrated by John Hurt. This included lots of new weird and wonderful dinos you may not have heard of before, including the fearsome Spinosaurus – a predator bigger than T-Rex that hunted like a crocodile.

This is has somewhat inspired our new order of superbly detailed Dinosaur figures from Papo. As well as spinosaurus we have dimetrodon, t-rex, archaeopteryx, brachiosaurus, stegosaurus, allosaurus, plesiosaurus (which some believe is real name of our local celebrity Nessie), parasaurolophus and pachyrhinosaurus amongst others. New stock should be in next week. Makes me wish I was about 35 years younger!

UPDATE: All Papo Dinosaur Figures are now in stock and available to buy. Check them out here.

SEO Shenanigans

Ok I admit it. This blog was basically started as I was told that we needed it for SEO reasons. The fact that I’m posting this on the blog proves how few potential customers for Comaco that I actually expect to read this.

The problem we have this is a small business and we do not have vast amounts of money to invest in building our online profile. I recently met some very nice SEO people who quoted me a small fortune to pimp things up on the web. I’m sure they could have achieved some positive results but the total cost would probably have ended up rivalling our annual budget for new stock.

Consequently I am stuck again with trying to make sense of webmaster double speak and doing what I can on my own. For example here is part of a comment someone has just sent regarding an earlier blog post

I noticed that your On-Page SEO is is missing a few factors, for one you do not use all three H tags in your post, also I notice that you are not using bold or italics properly in your SEO optimization. On-Page SEO means more now than ever since the new Google update: Panda. No longer are backlinks and simply pinging or sending out a RSS feed the key to getting Google PageRank or Alexa Rankings, You now NEED On-Page SEO. So what is good On-Page SEO?First your keyword must appear in the title. Then it must appear in the URL.You have to optimize your keyword and make sure that it has a nice keyword density of 3-5% in your article with relevant LSI (Latent Semantic Indexing). Then you should spread all H1,H2,H3 tags in your article…

I’m sure this will mean something to many potential readers, but personally it makes me want to throw my hands up in horror and go back to quill and ink. Latent Semantic Indexing for goodness sake! Isn’t life just too short? Oh well…

Ghoulish Fun with Monster High at Comaco Toys Direct

I must admit that Comaco Toys Direct has not generally gone in for more girl orientated toys in the past. As a male and the principal buyer I have tended to purchase things that would have appealed to me when I was younger, and the fact that I have two sons and no daughters has compounded this further. In fact I once had a long conversation with a rep from one of our suppliers who argued that girls’ toys were generally a weakness in the industry as so many buyers were men. I think far too often there is a tendency to assume that anything pink or fluffy will do.

This range of Monster High dolls is a little bit different in that, although they are feminine and fashion conscious, they are far from cute and conventional. We have eight different dolls with distinct horrific but stylish personalities. All are approx 28 cm high and fully articulated. They come with great outfits and a full range of accessories. The Scaris City of Frights Range has Ghoulia Yelps, Draculaura, Deuce Gorgon and Abbey Bominable, whilst the Ghouls Rule range includes Frankie Stein, Cleo de Nile, Clawdeen Wolf and an alternative Draculaura. As always we offer secure online checkout with Sagepay and free standard UK shipping on all orders
